Pakistan's first ever WordCamp held at IBA Karachi

WordCamps run on a non-profit motive, which is why it is normal for passionate WordPressers to spend their available resources for the event. While, it is commonplace for speakers to get paid when they speak at other conferences, WordCamp Speakers contribute their valuable time to the community without charging a penny.

The love of WordPress and the desire to encourage local talents, prompted Usman Khalid (CEO of WordPress Just in Time) to organize Pakistan's first ever WordCamp at Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi. This Wordcamp became a platform where the Pakistani WordPress community got together for a day of learning, networking, and celebrating the platform that empowered them to build their careers.

The event itself started off by Usman's Opening Keynote where he shared his experience as the Lead Organizer. It was evident that he and his team dedicated a lot of time and resources to make this event a successful one.

''We have taken the first step towards stronger community-bonding and more growth. Today, the community has achieved its long-held dream of seeing a WordCamp in Pakistan…''
– Usman Khalid, CEO of WordPress Just in Time (wpjit.com)

WordCamp Karachi was attended by 350 participants who belonged to four different countries and twelve different Pakistani cities. A day before the conference, the speakers and sponsors got a chance to socialize and network at an exclusive dinner organized for them.

A WordCamp was something that the local WordPress community had been striving to introduce in Pakistan since 2010. After years of yearning and struggle, their dream was finally fulfilled through the combined efforts of the Pakistani WordPress Community. All the organizers, speakers and volunteers joined together to dedicate their time and energy for this event.

The event concluded with an after-party where the speakers and participants had a chance to sit together and network, while enjoying live BBQ and discussing plans for future events.
