This year IBA AMAN Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) organized the third edition of International Entrepreneurship Summer School (IESS) at IBA, Karachi from 6th Aug, 2018 till 26th Aug, 2018.

The IBA IESS was a 20-day program designed to impart the taste of entrepreneurship from a South Asian perspective, while immersing in the cultural richness of Pakistan through workshops, lectures, cultural events, recreational activities, and countrywide travelling to the beautiful landscapes of the country.

IESS was host to over 60 international, national and IBA students this year. Our international participants were from Germany, Mexico, Switzerland, Sudan and UAE.

The program was also graced by the presence of various national guest speakers hailing from different universities of Pakistan.

The esteemed international faculty of IESS 2018 flew from Thailand, Canada, South Korea, Australia and Germany. They geared to teaching an attitude that shaped a specific set of traits which would make a successful entrepreneur while providing the participants an opportunity to develop the effectual skills and experience the challenge of scaling up a start-up from local to an international level.

Over the course of first 10 days, participants were given academic and guest speaker sessions on entrepreneurial training.

For a more hands-on-learning experience, a number of activities were conducted that ranged from traditional market place visit to Joria Bazar and Effectuation Entrepreneurship Dinner at MasterClass Kitchen Studio and an industry visit to MEB Textiles.

Apart from class lectures and excursions, the esteemed international participants and faculty members were exposed to the cultural richness of Pakistan through a night of aspiring music at Qawwali Night and Cultural Night.

The participants along with the IESS team, then set off on an extensive Pakistan Tour. This part of the program i.e. discovering Pakistan exposed participants to the wonderful surprises this country has to offer; ranging from the busy and fast-moving metropolitan cities of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to experiencing a peaceful lifestyle of its people in the enchanting valleys of Naran, Kaghan and Hunza followed by breath-taking rafting, trekking and hiking experiences in the heart of northern areas.

Dr. Farrukh Iqbal, Executive Director, IBA presented the certificates to the participants and delivered closing remarks. The program ended while the participants took an entrepreneurial resolve in which Dr. Shahid Qureshi stated, “Make resolve to promote the entrepreneurial mind set of parsimony, effectuation, innovation, contribution, collaboration, service and harmony,” he added, “Make resolve to make this world a better place by facilitating people to become better human beings which are ethically, socially and environmentally sensitive.”
