28th December 2016, Training of Trainers(ToT) held at Karachi
IBA AMAN CED in collaboration with Aurat Foundation under its USAID funded Gender Equity Program(GEP) has launched a certificate in entrepreneurship program for Women Home Based Workers(WHBWs) in Karachi and Quetta. The program is all set to launch in Karachi in the month of January; to kick-start the project the Training of Trainers(ToT) was held on 28th December 2016 at AMAN CED.
The objective of the event was to introduce the program trainers about the participant profile and to present their curriculum in accordance to the requirements of this 4-month entrepreneurial training program.
The session began by the recitation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Imran Khan and was then formally opened by an introductory speech by Dr. Shahid Qureshi, the Program Director. Dr. Qureshi highlighted the vision behind CED, introduced its various entrepreneurial flagship programs and expressed great appreciation for the efforts of Aurat Foundation and the role of the Gender Equity Program in alleviating gender inequality.
Ms. Mahpara Shakil, Deputy Chief of Party, Aurat Foundation introduced the Gender Equity Program (GEP) to the audience. She explained that program envisions to enhance equity, increase women's empowerment and combat gender based violence by expanding women's rights and knowledge about their access to resources. She also expressed her best wishes for IBA at the launch of the entrepreneurship skills training program for Women Home-Based Workers through the sub-grant of GEP.
Ms. Soha Zulfiqar, Project Manager, Business Incubation Program for WHBWs then introduced the Women Entrepreneurship projects that have been taken in the past by IBA CED, the program itself, the key activities to be undertaken in the project as well as the participant's profile, which included the area that the participants hail from, their educational background and their varied skill set.
This was followed up by a gender sensitization session conducted by Ms. Mahnaz Rehman, Resident Director, Aurat Foundation. She defined the idea of gender and asked the audience regarding some of the major issues that they, as women faces in their daily lives. The key issues that arose from this discussion were mainly sexual harassment, the presence of the glass ceiling and the numerous roles that women need to juggle with these days. Ms. Mahnaz discussed that there was a pressing need to introduce and, effectively implement policies that cater to the problem of rising gender disparity.
With that, Dr. Shahid Qureshi joined the stage to introduce the Effectuation model of entrepreneurship and discussed the significance of developing an entrepreneurial mindset amongst the participants first so that they are well equipped with this model. He invited Ms. Kanza Sohail, the curriculum coordinator for the project to brief the audience about the Training Need Assessment that was undertaken in order to assess participant needs and fulfill their expectations regarding the course modules. Ms. Kanza also described the module breakup and then presented the Accounting course outline. She then called upon stage, the faculty members that included, Dr. Imran Khan, Mr. Kamran Mumtaz, Dr. Najam Anjum, Ms. Faiza Yousuf and Ms. Uzma Aslam to discuss their course outlines for the modules that they will be teaching.
After the curriculum presentations, everybody headed towards a scrumptious lunch and later joined in for the concluding remarks by Dr. Shahid Qureshi who briefly painted a holistic picture of the entrepreneurship model that IBA CED aims to follow during the course of this 4-months program. He thanked everyone for their participation and wished a successful collaboration between Aurat Foundation and IBA CED.
