Youth Employment Project (YEP)

Program Overview

Pakistan is fortunate to have the largest percentage of youth in the world i.e. 64% of the total population is below the age of 30 years. This youth prominence offers prospects for socio-economic growth and prosperity if engaged productively. It also provides an exclusive opportunity and resources for Pakistan's economic and social development if youth are appropriately skilled and educated to meet the requirements of the labour market. However, a large proportion (32%) of youth is uneducated with no vocational skills; consequently, they remain either unemployed or under-employed.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan has engaged Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and University of Balochistan (UoB) to facilitate Entrepreneurship training and mentoring of 100 youth in the heart of Balochistan, Quetta. IBA has extensive experience of working with entrepreneurs throughout Pakistan and now in its IBA National Entrepreneurship Program (NEP) is launching the IBA-UNDP Balochistan Entrepreneurship Project (BEP) under the initiative of Balochistan SDGs Accelerated Delivery Project. The program aims to provide these young men and women from Balochistan with opportunities to acquire entrepreneurial skills, to develop their mindset and to start their own businesses. The potential beneficiaries will be the students of Universities, technical training institutes and colleges.

The program encompasses training on various modules including; Development of an Entrepreneurial mindset, Start-up Business Model Canvas, Basic IT Skills, Marketing & Sales, Operations, Basic Finance Concepts in Business context, Soft Skills, Law and the Development, refinement and presentation of Business action plans.

Program Highlights:

Initially, IBA will conduct a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in which it will train 40-50 Faculty Members in UoB, Quetta. The training will facilitate in the development of the faculty's mindset with the award-winning Entrepreneurship curriculum of IBA. Moreover, they will be taught how to promote this mindset amongst their students. After this training, they will become IBA Teaching Fellows and will be a part of IBA's team for the training of the students.

For the 100 youth, IBA will conduct a 50-hour Entrepreneurship certificate course at University of Balochistan (UoB), Quetta. This certificate course is aimed at providing entrepreneurship and life skills training to start their own businesses.

Facilitation in setting up of linkages and networks to gain practical exposure to what they want to do
