Global Mothers' Entrepreneurship Camp (G-MEC)

IBA Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) organized Global Mothers' Entrepreneurship Camp (G-MEC) from 16th till 21st Aug, 2020. The G-MEC was an exciting 5 day program aimed at stimulating participants to unveil their creative ingenuity and unleash their entrepreneurial potential. The camp endeavored to develop an entrepreneurial mindset while also focusing on lifestyle, family and relationship management.

The purpose of the Global Mother's Entrepreneurship Camp (G-MEC) was to equip women with the necessary skills and resources with respect to entrepreneurship in order to help them deal with challenges within themselves and their surroundings. The program was designed to help women in identifying their hidden potential and to encourage them to be nation builders and play a strong role in contributing to society. The program provided detailed sessions on positive parenting techniques, developing an entrepreneurial mindset, providing motivation to homemakers and provides an interactive platform to engage in live online sessions with international and local guest speakers. Upon completion of the program participants also received two complimentary one-on-one sessions with IBA faculty who provided personalized business coaching.

The IBA G-MEC commenced on Sunday, August 16, 2020 with a Meet-and-Greet Session. During the session the IBA team welcomed a group of 40 women from 5 countries namely, Pakistan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

The program commenced with a brief introduction. Dr. Shahid Qureshi, Associate Professor & Program Director IBA CED welcomed the participants to the program and gave them a brief insight into the entrepreneurial mindset. Participants were taught the basic concepts of entrepreneurship and life skills supported by case studies. Participants had the opportunity to take part in several activities including the effectual snack activity, menti-meter, speed boating as well as Idea generation. International Guest Speakers who addressed the G-MEC class of 2020 included Dr. Dianne Welsh, (Hayes Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship and Founding Director of the Entrepreneurship Programs at The University of North Carolina Greensboro) and Ms. Ruhana Hafiz, (MBA from Harvard Business School). Participants especially appreciated listening to the journeys of both these inspiring women. A complimentary session for Father's was conducted on August 20, 2020. The session aimed to enlighten men on how they can support women in developing an entrepreneurial mindset while also focusing on family and relationship management.

The Camp concluded with a Graduation Ceremony held on August 21, 2020. Family members of participants were invited to this much awaited event. A special address was given by the Program Director, Dr. Shahid Qureshi, followed by an address by our Chief Guest Dr. Huma Baqai, Associate Dean (Faculty of Business Administration) and Associate Professor of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, IBA, Karachi.

The program ended with distribution of certificates to the IBA G-MEC 2020 graduates. It was a truly remarkable night marking the many achievements of the class of 2020.
